All you need to know about the positive impact of gratitude on your happiness

Many research studies were done over the years, and they all commonly highlight the importance of gratitude for your well-being: when practiced regularly, it can make you happier, healthier, improve your self-esteem, help to make friends, increase your productivity and much more.

The team of has done a great job to compile the results of more than 40 research studies on gratitude, thus I am happy to share with you the link that shows you a list of 31 benefits of gratitude.

Why does it give you so many benefits?
Because in today’s world we often focus on the negative things around us or get distracted and jealous by the more successful, beautiful or rich people that we meet or see in the media. We need to take our time to remind ourselves of all the beauty and love that the world offers us every day. By showing gratitude on a regular basis you will lessen the impact of negative feelings you obtain so easily in today’s developed world.

How grateful are you currently?

  • Do you have so much in life to be thankful for?
  • If you had to list everything that you felt grateful for, would it be a very long list?
  • When you look at the world, do you see much to be grateful for?
  • Are you grateful to a wide variety of people?
  • As you get older do you find yourself more able to appreciate the people, events, and situations that have been part of your life history?
  • Can you feel grateful to someone even if you barely know this person?

Did you answer all questions with a strong YES? Then you might already be very good in showing gratitude. Even then you should always reflect on yourself if you continue to do so. And if you are not there yet, don’t worry, there are easy and effective ways to make you become more grateful in a very short time.

How can you practice more gratitude?
If you meditate, you can easily integrate a gratitude practice during your meditation. Simply take a few minutes of it to show gratitude for everything that you experienced in the last 24 hours or few days that you feel thankful for.
You can also keep a gratitude journal to write down positive statements about the things you experienced during the day.

Also consider rethinking past events and forgiving people to create peace with your past. Research has actually shown that people who think about their past in an optimistic way can better control their happiness in the future.

Finally, watch these two videos to get a different perspective on gratitude!

“There are many things for which we cannot be grateful, but there is no moment for which we cannot be grateful, because in every moment, even difficult ones, we have the opportunity to do something.”
Brother David Steindl-Rast

The second video reflects on a six-group, random assignment, placebo-controlled Internet study on gratitude, which tested five purported happiness interventions and one plausible control exercise. They found that three of the interventions lastingly increased happiness and decreased depressive symptoms.
